Dumb and Dumber could quite possibly be my favorite movie ever. There are so many little things that make this movie hilarious. The funny parts in this movie are never ending, and I can recite many of them off the top of my head with my friends. There is a reason why these parts are funny and it isnt strictly the characters/actors that make it work. With the different uses of camera, sound and cinematography, the Farrelly Borthers mold these hilarious characters into one as a unit, and they perfectly flow together throughout the film.
One example where the camera really makes the scene is when Jeff Daniels and Jim Carey arrive at the party wearing thier orange and blue suits. They decide to celebrate Lloyd's date with Mary by popping open a bottle of wine. As the cork flies out the camera quickly shifts to the owl's point of view with the cork coming straight at it. After the owl is pelted by the cork, as an art of film I student, you really realize that the scene was MUCH funnier just becuase of that camera angle, as well as the sound of the speeding cork as the owl would hear it.
Now that is only one example, but there are many more. The combination of a perfect cast, awesome script and the Farrelly Borthers' skills with film making, this is regarded as a classic by many people. Personally, I can honestly say I have not seen a movie more times than I have seen Dumb and Dumber, because it is always good for some laughs. Its almost better when you know every line. Bottom line this movie is alot of fun to watch and many people dont realize how the cinematography and things play into your enjoyment factor. Very top quality movie overall.

bobby j, great write up. This is such a classic and I am very glad we got the Farrelly Brothers as our directors. I completely agree with you in how the camera movement does play a large roll in making the film more funny.I also loved the different techniques the brothers used to creat hilarious scenes.
hhahahahahahah i was laughing while i read that post, thinking about the two dufases walking into the Icelandic snow owl benefit.
Im really glad you talked about the cork flying through the air, because I was also more intrigued with this shot after Art of Film 1. the Point of view show from the Icelandic snow owl makes the scene that much funnier and trule exhibits the amazingness that the Farrelly brothers possess. nice work Nuck Chorris
